John Paul Brammer writes the “¡Hola Papi!” advice column for The Cut at New York magazine, answering questions like, “Why am I dreaming about sex with a man when I’m a lesbian?” Or, “What if my partner judges me for writing smut?” This candor has given John Paul an intimate connection with his readers. However, as today’s episode reveals, he doesn’t think we necessarily need that level of openness with all of our loved ones. Ahead of Mother’s Day, Brammer reads an essay about a recent college graduate who sets out to spend the summer exploring his sexuality, but whose plans are derailed by his duty to his grandmother. It’s called “Young, Gay and Single Among the Nuns and Widows” by Kevin Hershey. Brammer says it’s “bizarre” how much this essay resonates with his own life.

After speaking with a doctor, the benefits sounded really appealing. I bought bags of ice to make the water in my bathtub cold enough. Jen GlantzWhenever I saw a photo or video of someone about to enter a freezing-cold bathtub, I wondered why they'd endured such an activity. "If you repeatedly expose yourself to a stressor — such as cold water — in an intentional and structured way, over time, your body will create a positive response to stressors," the doctor said. The doctor said the frequency and length of a cold plunge can be left up to individual preferences.

As the sun set on a cloudy evening in Times Square on Friday, a 65-foot-long frankfurter cantilevered into the sky and spewed out a blast of rainbow confetti. of its bun, drag wrestlers were finishing their match in an elevated boxing ring, practically twerking on the ropes, cheered on by hundreds of spectators. It was the first public event for “Hot Dog in the City,” an installation for Times Square Arts, the largest work that the organization has ever commissioned. The giant wiener was created by Jen Catron and Paul Outlaw, married Brooklyn artists whose métier is often interactive, food-based spectaculars that also question the lore — and lure — of Americana. When they hit upon the hot dog, a national symbol of patriotism and also an emblem of the hard-to-digest truth about mass production and labor, consumerism and marketing, it seemed like a natural match for the setting.

Virgin Voyages created a virtual version of Jennifer Lopez, "Jen AI." Virgin Voyages/VMLAgency: VMLThe campaign: Last summer, Virgin Voyages created "Jen AI," an online platform that allowed users to send a personalized video of Jennifer Lopez to their friends to invite them to go on a cruise. The "Jen AI" was trained on Lopez reading a script using technology from SpeakUnique. Meanwhile, guardrails were built in by a team of moderators, including an updated list of banned words Jen-AI wouldn't say. Justice Sonia Sotomayor asked Joshua Turner, the lawyer for the state of Idaho, about specific, real-life scenarios where pregnant people required emergency abortions. Later, she returned to the hospital, Sotomayor said, and received an abortion "because she was about to die." Pregnancy can be dangerous, particularly in the United States, which has the highest rate of maternal mortality in the developed world. About 10% to 20% of pregnancies end in miscarriage and many don’t require medical intervention, but some may require treatment using the same procedure used in an abortion. Miscarriages can put someone’s life at risk because of serious blood loss or infection if the miscarriage is not complete.

CNN —The US Environmental Protection Agency designated two widely used “forever chemicals” as hazardous substances under the United States’ Superfund law on Friday. This ruling will allow the EPA to investigate and clean up leaks and spills of these harmful chemicals, according to the official news release. Exposure to “forever chemicals” has been linked to cancers, heart and liver disease and immune and developmental damage to infants and children, according to the news release. There are more than 12,000 forms of PFAS chemicals in the environment. Dear Work It Out, I work in an office where the same floor is shared by multiple teams that don't work together, but work for the same parent company. There are a few people whose voices carry all the time, and occasionally a group of them will congregate in an open area not far from my desk for what seem like impromptu team meetings or snacks. Since I don't know most of them, it feels like asking them to quiet down would seem like scolding from an unrelated party, but it really disrupts my work. Still, it's important to remember that you are at work to work, and if your environment hinders your productivity, that's something you — and your company — should care about. I've been having a hard time taking client calls when your team talks openly in the office near my desk.

CNN —Zepbound, a popular weight loss drug, also seems to help people with obstructive sleep apnea, drugmaker Eli Lilly said Wednesday. Based on results from trials in people with sleep apnea, the company said it plans to submit the material to the US Food and Drug Administration to potentially expand the use of Zepbound for obstructive sleep apnea. Obstructive sleep apnea is a disorder that causes people to briefly stop breathing while they are sleeping, sometimes several times an hour. While people are more at risk for obstructive sleep apnea as they get older, it often develops when people gain weight and have overweight or obesity. Some doctors have been prescribing the weekly injection off label to people with obstructive sleep apnea, and Lilly has been testing the drug for obstructive sleep apnea since June 2022.

I tested the eight-minute phone call concept to reconnect with two of my best friends. So for the month of February, I scheduled weekly eight-minute calls with two of my close friends, Sarah and Larissa. These phone calls took the place of longer calls, but also replaced the need for text message chats. AdvertisementPerhaps the biggest perk of these short calls was getting to hear the voices of my best friends. I realized that these eight-minute phone calls aren't a solution for every friendship.

I like putting money in CDs, and one option that will help long-term with taxes is a SEP IRA CD. I started moving money between high-yield savings accounts, CDs, and other passive income-earning investments like REITs and dividend stocks. Interest and earnings from savings accounts, CDs, and other investments are considered taxable income. Instead, after paying my taxes, I reassess how much money of interest income I actually made and decide how to use the cash then. However, unlike a regular CD, CDs in your retirement fund have contribution limits set by the IRS.

Men had more strokes related to extreme temperatures than women, but it affected people across all age groups. While that may sound counterintuitive for global warming, cold temperatures also come along with climate change. Last year was the warmest since scientists started recording global temperatures in 1850 and temperatures are expected to break more records in the near future. The new study wasn’t designed to show why extreme temperatures that come with the climate crisis seem to be causing so many strokes. Extreme cold temperatures also can lead someone to have a stroke.
